Packed with Dignity

Every child deserves to carry their belongings with dignity

Belongings are part of a child’s life

A favorite shirt, a photograph, a book, a familiar toy. These are a child’s belongings and memories. The way they are handled should communicate care, continuity, and respect.

Our standard

Every child should have suitable luggage whenever they travel or move. Their belongings should never be packed in garbage bags.

Packed with Dignity is Brave Dignity’s luggage and transition support initiative for children in foster care. Its purpose is to help families, caregivers, and community partners make that standard part of every transition.

What a dignified journey includes

  • A clean, durable suitcase or appropriate travel bag, with enough space for the child’s belongings.
  • A voice in packing, with support suited to the child’s age and needs.
  • Care for familiar and meaningful items, kept accessible when appropriate.
  • Privacy for personal belongings and identifying information.
  • A named adult who checks that belongings travel with the child and arrive safely.

Available now

The packing checklist and family and caregiver learning guide are ready to use. Luggage collection, partner coordination, and distribution are being organized. A published program page does not mean bags or delivery are currently available.

Help build the program

Organizations, families, and community members can express interest in coordinating luggage support through the university contact page. Please describe your interest without including a child’s name, placement, case information, or personal story. Confirm current needs and a receiving partner before collecting or sending luggage.
