DIGNITY CURRICULUM · LESSON 02
Voice and Agency
Practice speaking with clarity and respect
The idea
Agency means having meaningful choices and support to use them. A person can express a preference, ask a question, disagree, or request time without having to earn dignity first.
Try it together
- Offer a choice between two ordinary activities. Ask what makes the choice meaningful and whether another option is needed.
- Practice three phrases: “I see it differently.” “I need more time.” “Can you explain that another way?”
- Use an imagined disagreement about a group project. Let each person name a preference, listen, and propose a next step.
Reflect
Was everyone able to speak, write, point, or choose another way to participate?
Carry it forward
Before deciding for someone, we will ask what they think and what support would help.
Facilitator note
Use fictional or everyday examples. Do not require a personal disclosure or ask learners to relive a difficult experience. Offer a pause and an alternative activity. Follow your organization’s applicable safeguarding procedures when support is needed.
