DIGNITY CURRICULUM · LESSON 01
Recognize Dignity
Notice the person before the problem
The idea
Dignity is the starting point: every person deserves to be treated as someone whose voice, boundaries, learning, and future matter. A disagreement does not erase that worth.
Try it together
- Invite each learner to name one way they like to be included. Speaking, drawing, or passing are all welcome.
- Read this scenario: a new learner arrives and does not know the group’s routines. Ask what would help them belong without putting them on the spot.
- Choose one action: learn how to say someone’s name, explain a routine, make room at the table, or invite a question.
Reflect
Where did we make room for someone today? What could we change tomorrow?
Carry it forward
This week, we will welcome someone by explaining one thing that may be unfamiliar.
Facilitator note
Use fictional or everyday examples. Do not require a personal disclosure or ask learners to relive a difficult experience. Offer a pause and an alternative activity. Follow your organization’s applicable safeguarding procedures when support is needed.
